7 Ways to Market Your Business Using Promotional Items
Have you jumped on the promotional item bandwagon? If so, you've probably got plenty of product to go around. But now that you have it, do you know what to do with it?
Promotional products are great, but they can't do their job if they're sitting in a closet at the office. To make sure they're doing what you made them for, they've got to see the light of day.
So how, exactly, should you use your promotional items?
Luckily, promotional product marketing isn't hard. Here are seven ways you can use your products to promote your business.
1. Get Your Product to the Right People
If you've done your research right, you'll know the group of people who will most likely care about your business, services, or products. So, to use your promotional products most effectively, that's who you want to get your products out to.
If your target audience is millennials, it won't do you much good to give away a bunch of product at a senior retirement convention. Make sure you focus on giving those products out where your intended audience is likely to be.
If you don't know who your specific audience is, you need to find out! Do some research to see who is most interested in what you have to offer. Then use that knowledge to get the word out to the right people.
When creating promotional products, this should be kept in mind as well. If middle-aged women are your audience, kid's toys or baseball caps may not be the best items to use.
Remember, you want the products to get used and seen as often as possible.
2. Make It Known Who It's From
People love free stuff, so chances are that if you're offering something free, a lot of people will accept it.
Just getting the items into peoples' hands isn't enough, though. You've got to create your logo, name, brand, or some other clear identifier if you want consumers to think of you.
Promo items are so effective because they end up sitting around peoples' homes and offices. If they see your brand name staring at them all the time, they'll think of you when they need the type of services or products you offer.
3. Give it Away
It may sound counter-intuitive to just give a product away, but it goes a long way in getting your name out there.
Why? We already told you -- people love free stuff!
There are plenty of ways to give away product that bears your name.
Have a booth at a sporting event and let people turn a wheel to determine what promotional item they get. Use it as raffle prizes, items to give people just for visiting your booth, or giveaways at special events.
4. Include a URL
If your business has a website (if not, it should), include it on your promotional products. This not only gets your name out there but it also sends people to your site. There, they'll find out a whole lot more info about your brand.
Take things even further and have a special landing page for people who received the promotional item. This could be a download, extra, or anything that the general public doesn't have access to for free.
5. Promote Your Social Media Pages
If you're really looking to be successful, you probably have social media accounts for your business. Get the word out by including that information on your promotional items.
Providing your name and company information is great. But leaving it at that means your product recipients don't know about your social media pages unless they seek them out.
Cut out the need for this extra work (since a lot of people won't bother with it) and just let them know about your pages. This can be as simple as including your name/logo/brand and a symbol representing Facebook. Recipients will recognise that you have a Facebook page and they may just look it up!
6. Include a Coupon
Your promotional products should ultimately encourage consumers to spend money on your goods or services. One way to get consumers to act is to give them a coupon with a great deal.
When distributing promotional products, include a coupon right on the item. This is easy with items like key chain cards, candy bars, and other small items. Simply include the coupon on the back and it'll encourage the recipient to at least look at what you have to offer.
7. Make It Part of a Set
If something comes in a set, there's a good chance people will work hard, whether they realise it or not, to get the rest of the set. At the very least, they'll try to learn more about it.
Grab consumers' interest and get them to act by letting them know the item is part of a larger set.
For example, say you give away some mugs. Include part of a story or some other info that lets people know there are others. They'll do what they can to get the others so they have a matching set.
Promotional Product Marketing at Its Best
Promotional product marketing should be fun! Let your creative juices flow instead of worrying about cramming as much information as you can.
Whatever product you use, include some basic identifying information, then leave the rest up to a fun aspect or to simplicity. Either way works just fine.
Your name will have entered a household, and if you've done your job right, it will stay there for a good long while.
